(E)Pic Pause

Cricketers are lucky. Apart from other things, they don't have to pose as if playing a shot and prompt someone to click them in that pose. In fact, they don't ever have to tell the photographers when to click. And the latter also never have to tell the cricketers when they'll click a shot.

Today's Holi and I was trying to click a few pictures of the action. I observed that a lot of action was so frequently punctuated (even punctured). Hardly anything happens before people start posing for pics. And more pics. And yet more.

Moving aimlessly looks foolish surely :) but photography without intense action is futile too.

Photographs are not stories, even though they might be equal to a 1000 words. But what we are looking for is an equality of 1000 great words woven rivettingly. Great stories are borne out of great efforts. Monumental efforts. Monumental efforts fetch their words automatically. A body that's gone through some intense action will automatically recount the story as vividly as the recounter desires, irrespective of the photographic prompts.

*The above is a randomly clicked picture on 27th March '13. The post doesn't specifically talk about those posing in this particular picture. :)

Facebook's business model

First play God. Create veins and arteries attached to the heart.

Then play Devil. Inject them with bad cholesterol.

And then, become an avatar of God, a bypass surgeon, to charge them to remove the bad cholesterol or to bypass the bad cholesterol.

The way to create an info-based business-model like FB, is that?

WEIRD: Because Normal Isn't Working

Description

Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Many of their relationships are, at best, strained and, in most cases, just surviving. Even though we live in one of the most prosperous places on earth, normal is still living paycheck to paycheck and never getting ahead. In our oversexed world, lust, premarital sex, guilt, and shame are far more common than purity, virginity, and a healthy married sex life. And when it comes to God, the majority believe in him, but the teachings of scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives. Simply put, normal isn't working. Groeschel's WEIRD views will help you break free from the norm to lead a radically abnormal (and endlessly more fulfilling) life.

Only God can measure all the stuff we desire to measure

That effectively means not everything can be measured.  In which case, you rely on what can be currently measured for your judgments and stay blissfully happy and cover your ignorance with actor-worthy confidence.

Or, you observe meticulously, and add to the current measurements or replace the current measurements with better measurements and move closer to perfect judgments.

I said 'closer'. How 'close'? Alas, you'll never be able to measure.

But if you take time and give space, you might just be able to feel it all and that might be the best measurement.

Talking excitedly

is often mistaken for the 'energy to execute'.

I've seen this in myself. There have been numerous occasions when I've talked so excitedly about something and on the next update I had nothing to show for all the talk.

Energy to talk excitedly is momentary. Excitement during execution and steadfastness in execution span far greater time and require a different nature of energy, a different reserve of energy.

I'm afraid there aren't too many indicators to feel the latter.

Gym is for the Schoolish Foolish

Having titled it like that, let me tell you this up front. I've been to gyms and on a few occasions subscribed and lapsed out of the gym routine.

Gym is the school-model of staying fit. Go there, do the things in a particular manner, with the purpose of losing weight or gaining muscle (like getting maximum marks in school).

Some of the best times in school were when we played, when we whiled away time with classmates planning pranks or just chitchatting. While attending classes is what is considered important for career, the most pleasurable time was in all likelihood outside of the class.

Gym puts you in a class meant to get you a fit body. You don't make a career only through a school. You make it regardless. You make it coz something spurred your curiosity or interest or the desire to learn and earn. You don't stay fit just through a gym. You stay fit coz you enjoy your body move. You enjoy the freshness that the breathing fills your mind and body with. Fitness regimen would be more a result of the curiosity to explore the limits and stretches of your body. Not coz you have been made to undergo yet another class to shed a few kilos.
